Archived News Items It Seemed a shame to delete the things our club have been up to over last season. So this page is dedicated to those things. Summer Tournament In previous years our end of term tournaments have been singles games. It was always thought a fairer way, because the players taking part were their own person and any mistakes were down to them. This tournament was different, doubles play, playing with other players meant they were playing as a team and with players that may be stronger or weaker than themselves. We had a bit of a practice at the Bristol 24 hour badminton marathon were it worked very well. The idea was to play doubles with each player in their group against other pairs in the same group chosen at random. Summer skittles. 7 June 2008. Fry social club was again the venue for our summer skittles evening. It was very well attended by juniors and parents, a good chance for the newer junior members to socialise with the more established members with parent support. Thanks to Pete for manning the score board on the parent alley, bad back and all! And also to Malcolm for the scoring the junior side, not an easy job. Thanks also to Malcolm for putting together the raffle prizes, and thanks to God I didn't lose my voice calling out the numbers. Avon Under Eleven Friendly 27.04.08 What is now becoming a regular event was our friendly against Avon's under eleven squad, it took place today at St Ursula's school in Westbury-on-Trym. 12 from Keynsham Junior BC who were; Caleb, Dom, Ben, Alex, Oliver, Eleni, Matt, Lawrence, Jessica, Jonathon, Jack and JP made their way to Avon's U11's venue at St Ursula's and enjoyed loads of games including singles, doubles, and a fun game of donkey or three. Keynsham Juniors would like to thank Dave and Paul from Avon for inviting us along, thanks to the parents from Keynsham Juniors for giving up their Sunday afternoon, and to the Avon parents and juniors for making us welcome and for a great food spread. There was a disappointing lack of numbers, but this could have been attributed to the Easter half term falling just before the weekend. But I am pleased to say that Keynsham Juniors and Kingsdown Juniors saved the day. 15 players in two groups, played first to 15 points using the rally point system. Because initially it was meant to be a doubles tournament I felt we should keep to the same discipline. To make it fair the players took it in turn to pair up with a different partner each game and played one game against other pairs in their group, keeping track of their score we eventually found a first and second place.
